25 Hours Hotel Das Tour: Düsseldorf’s Design Destination

25 Hours Hotel Das Tour

If beautiful Parisian-themed rooms and a gorgeous rooftop bar and restaurant weren’t enough lures, the newly opened 25 Hours Hotel Das Tour in Dusseldorf‘s Le Quartier Central comes packed with irresistible freebies and inimitable little touches that travellers will love.

The Lobby at 25 Hours Hotel Das Tour

The design hotel’s stunning architecture becomes evident as soon as you enter the tasteful lobby. Squishy round cushions rest in cane chairs and a vending machine pumps out multi-coloured candy for the kids (and adults!). Posters on the walls highlight the French theme of the hotel, with a black and white representation of Romance à l’inconnue and photographs of the Tour de France.

The overt pipes and black lights remind one of movie sets and the resemblance continues into the rooms as well.

An array of fresh flowers and plants, an upturned bicycle, a kiosk of books and magazines and a little shop containing items you experience during your stay at the hotel, populate the reception area.

There’s also a little cafe in the lobby, with al fresco sitting for indulging in the favourite German tradition of coffee and kuchen (cake).

Seen in totality, the lobby and reception area present a striking confluence of German engineering and the French artistic soul. And the result is pure elegance.

Rooms at 25 Hours Hotel Das Tour

There are various types of rooms available at the 25 Hours Hotel Das Tour, starting with the 20sqm Mediums. They come in both German and French themes and the one we stayed at was an 8th floor German-design room, with references to high-tech engineering.

The view from our room

The size was perfect, the view breath-taking and the layout a complete surprise. We entered to find the washbasin and bathroom to the left and open metal receptacles to the right, for storage.

A little corridor led into the bedroom, where the bed faced the German-style enormous window with a sprawling view of Dusseldorf and the smart TV was on the right.

A writing desk sat pretty in the right corner, while a comfortable settee below the window on the left seemed perfect for enjoying a drink from the mini-bar.

The Medium rooms don’t come with a coffee-tea maker but they do come with portable UE Boom Bluetooth speakers, a large Canvasco or Freitag (we got Canvasco) bag for use during your stay, free high-speed Wi-Fi, air-conditioning and rain shower head. But the little things we loved the most aren’t on this list.

Take this cute intruder in our compact bed for instance.

And the heavenly smelling Stop The Water While Using Me care range with lemon and honey.

All rooms come with free access to the sauna, Samova tea station, fitness centre and selection of soft drinks on the 14th floor, free MINI hire, the latest Companion magazine for your reading pleasure and Schindelhauer bikes for rent (paid). Whether it’s a power bank you need or an umbrella, you can borrow it all from the reception.

The breakfast buffet is an add-on but as of June 2018, you can get a night in a Medium room along with breakfast for just €99 (or €89 without breakfast).

There are five other types of rooms available at Das Tour, with slight differences in price and features. Medium+ is a tad larger, Sky Medium features views on the 9th floor and above and Sky Medium+ features both of the aforementioned features. Sky Large and Sky Gigantic can accommodate small families and come equipped with tea and coffee makers.

But if its a balcony with free-standing tub you’re looking at, you can choose between Medium+, Sky Medium+ and Sky Gigantic.

Dining at 25 Hours Hotel Das Tour

Stretching over the two top floors of Das Tour, The Paris Club is immensely popular with locals of Dusseldorf as well. The restaurant which serves, breakfast, lunch and dinner is on the 16th floor, while the bar which specialises in French highballs is located on the 17th floor.

Enjoying a drink while gazing out at the charming rooftops of Dusseldorf from the breezy, 360 degree terrace is an exquisite experience. But what are highballs? They are cocktails prepared without a shaker.

“Highballs are short drinks served in frozen glasses with two ice cubes; basically they are quick to prepare and just as fast to drink,” says Jörg Meyer, the bartender.

While the bar exudes the relaxed ambience of an artist’s studio, the restaurant is much more straight-forward. Nudist sketches cover the walls on one side and every section offers beautiful views of the city.

The breakfast buffet is sufficient if a little crowded. There are fresh fruits, salad, cereals, eggs of choice, cheesecake, freshly baked breads and croissants with a variety of preserves and cheese, yoghurt and muesli and even sparkling wine to choose from. We have to say, the cappuccino and caramel spread were rather exceptional.

Sauna and Fitness at 25 Hours Hotel Das Tour

Finally, we come to the place we loved the most – the 14th floor sauna and fitness centre. In cool countries like Germany, a sauna is a much better asset than a swimming pool.

The hotel invites guests to sweat it out and relax after a hectic day of exploring Dusseldorf, which is a great idea indeed.

Gym

To get to the sauna with its own private terrace and outdoor shower, one has to pass through the retro-style gym. Reminiscent of stripped-down sports halls, it is minimalist, and the hotel offers free access to a larger gym nearby for dedicated exercisers.

Inside, there’s a sauna that can seat two people, a Samova tea station, a refrigerator with soft drinks and mineral water to slake the post-workout thirst, and a small terrace with th same beautiful view as the top-floor bar, and an inviting deck chair that does wonderful things to your back.

We sipped on sugar-free cola while gazing out at Dusseldorf at sundown and it was one of those perfect moments that travelling enables us to enjoy.
