25hours Hotel The Royal Bavarian: A Munich-Themed Wonderland

25hours Hotel The Royal Bavarian in Munich is the third 25hours Hotel we stayed at, and we can now safely say that it feels like home (the others were at Berlin and Dusseldorf).

Each one of their hotels has its own story and character, but what they all have in common is quirky aesthetics that will inspire your curiosity, inescapable warmth, rooms that are inimitably chic with plenty of comforting additions, and spacious saunas that mostly feature breezy verandah and city views.

Most importantly, all 25hours Hotels house world-class restaurants and bars that will charm your evenings and breakfast times. If that’s not a good reason to stay at a 25hours Hotel every time you travel, we don’t know what is.

Location

25hours Hotel The Royal Bavarian has a very convenient location: right across the Munich Hauptbahnhof tram station. So you exit the central station, and you just have to walk a few steps to reach the four-star luxury hotel.

The hotel is within walking distance of most of Munich’s main landmarks including Marienplatz and Gärtnerplatz.

So if you arrive earlier than the check-in time of 3 PM, leave your bags at the hotel, and do a walking tour of the Altstadt (old town) making sure not to miss Asamkirche, the old and new town halls, Frauenkirche, and Residenz, which is the largest city palace in Germany.

Fun Fact: The hotel is housed within the former Imperial Post and Telegraph Office.

Design

Just like 25hours Hotel Bikini Berlin, this one also has a reception that isn’t directly accessible from the main entrance. With childlike wonder, you ascend the spiraling staircase lined with fairy lights to come upon a reception area that seems to be in love with violet.

Alternatively, you could take the elevator, which is fitted with a kingly throne, and 3D painting of Munich. Magic pervades the carriage sitting in the middle of books, lotions, wines, and other bric-à-brac for sale. Above the check-in desk are the signature upturned bicycles that you’ll find in every 25hours hotel.

If you look past the check-in desk, you’ll see mounted moose heads announcing the presence of The Boilerman Bar. To the right, a beautiful corridor leads to enchanting spaces that are all yours to explore.

High chandeliers serve as a canopy for Neni Restaurant and The Lost Weekend & Orangerie (cafe). At the very end of the corridor lies an interesting room called The Muschelkammer (Conch Room).

Designed like a hunter’s cabin, the room is characterized by shell-shaped lamps, an animal trophy head, and a long wooden table and chairs. The hotel truly brings alive the spirit of the golden era.

Fun Fact: Most of the paintings and fixtures at the hotel relate to Munich’s Bavarian legacy.

Rooms

25hours Hotel The Royal Bavarian features three kinds of accommodation: box rooms, chambers, and suites. We stayed in an 18 sqm Box Room for two, and it was compact but charming, with the signature washbasin and mirror in the sleeping area, plush sleeping companion (a swan this time), and wall paintings depicting Bavarian history.

As in all the 25hours hotel rooms, this one was also equipped with a Canvasco bag, UE boom bluetooth speaker, and high-speed WiFi. Most importantly, the bed and pillows was exceedingly comfortable, and the shower in the bathroom felt like a gentle massage on the back.

Regardless of the room category, all guests can enjoy the use of the sauna, free MINI rentals, and wonderful Stop the Water While Using Me toiletries.

Amenities

The hotel features an exceptionally spacious and relaxing sauna on the fourth floor. As you relax in the alcoves, you enjoy lovely views of Munich. You could sip on some Samova tea from the tea station, have a snooze on the full-length beds, or step out into the breezy veranda for some fresh air.

Adjacent to the sauna is a tiny gym that is so exquisite in terms of design. There is enough equipment for a short workout, and what else do you need on a holiday?

Restaurant & Bar

Dining at 25hours Hotels is an experience to cherish, as they always feature unique theme bars and Neni restaurants, run by Israeli restaurateur Haya Molcho.

Neni Restaurant

We had breakfast at Neni Restaurant on the ground floor, and it was nearly full on Sunday morning. Over-sized butter croissants went excellently with fresh quark cheese and honeycomb.

Gourmet selections of goat cheese, dry fruits, nuts, seeds, and fresh fruit gave us an excellent start to the day. The service, as always, was fast and efficient, and the waitress brought us delicious cappuccinos and a vegetable omelette.

We can also recommend the juice bar which even featured an array of sparkling and white wines. Adjacent to the restaurant is the Lost Weekend & Orangerie cafe, where you can get coffee and snacks during the day.

The Boilerman Bar

The Boilerman Bar is a world of decadence hidden away beyond red velvet curtains. It gets extremely busy in the nights, so come early or reserve a table if you’d like to sit. They serve highballs (a special kind of cocktail) that pack a real punch, and the bartenders and waiters are adept at navigating the hordes of patrons.

What we really liked was that decorum was maintained, although everyone was having a fantastic time.

Pro Tip: If the bar is full, get your drink and make your way to The Muschelkammer for seating space.
